UX/UI Design, Frontend Dev

2023 - Present

Vizop is a modern browser-based Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) software, built as part of XSeriCon. Designed by safety experts for safety experts, it eliminates documentation friction and lets engineers focus on safety analysis instead of paperwork.

Dragon's Chamber 2024

After about a year of development, we pitched Vizop at Dragon's Chamber 2024 during Meet Taipei — and won.

Existing HAZOP and PHA software in the chemical safety industry was outdated and clunky, built for regulatory compliance rather than for the engineers actually running the analysis. There was an opportunity to build something more functional, and more pleasant to use.

Chemical engineering was unfamiliar territory. HAZOP and PHA are methods for ensuring safety before a chemical plant is built, and chemical plants sit behind food processing, pharmaceuticals, oil, and gas — an invisible system most people never think about. Getting the design right meant learning the domain first, which took weeks of reading before any design work could responsibly begin.

Tech Stack

The founder's past experience with Django had been less than ideal. Alternatives were researched, and the team landed on Reflex, a young Python framework built on React. It didn't have a large community yet, but it turned out to be the right choice.

Role

UX/UI design and frontend development, working directly with the founder from the start. The MVP was built together in about a year.

Vizop is stable and in use by dozens of clients across large industries.
