2024 - 2025
Viviane Chen is a fashion and textile conservator with over a decade of experience across museums, theatre, and exhibition projects, running a small, mobile studio working between Portugal and Taiwan.
The website needed to be updated and modernised as she looks to expand her image. It needed to be toned down to let her work stand out, rather than compete with it. It also needed a blog and a dedicated section to publish her research papers — and to stay expandable, with an e-commerce portion planned for the future.
Existing competitors' websites in the conservation field are often stylistically outdated. She was initially hesitant for the site to look like some of the industry giants, but we later agreed it was the right call to reach that level of image.
Her client base spans English, Portuguese, French, and Traditional Chinese speakers, so every page needed all four languages. Rather than hide translations behind a locale switcher, each field was built as an explicit English/Portuguese/French/Chinese set, all editable on one form — with a "Show: All/EN/FR/PT/ZH" filter in the admin so she can focus on one language at a time without the data being split apart. She was specific about what she wanted, and the brief was restraint, not decoration.
Still a work in progress. Working with Viviane has been a great pleasure — she was demanding but trusting, and the work she does is genuinely interesting to me.
